Bernie Morris had one of the greatest Stanley Cup Finals performances in hockey history, scoring 14 of his team’s 23 goals (in 4 games!) in 1917. But he is not in the Hall of Fame.
In this episode, we discuss his career and his case. Listen here:
Career:
- NHL:
- 1924-25; 1 season, 0 quality
- 1G, 1A for 2P in 6 games
- Did not play enough for era/per-season calculations
- Playoffs: 0 games
- Trades:
- Traded into the NHL at 34 and then traded the same day with Bobby Benson (30) for Alf Skinner (28) [It’s possible this is a 3-way trade]
- Waived 6 games later
- PCHA:
- 1914-23; 8 seasons, all quality
- 155G (5th? All Time), 76A (4th?) for 231P (4th?) in 167 Games (11th?)
- If the qualifier is set at 90 games (3 seasons), Morris is probably 2nd All time in GPG, APG and PPG [behind Cyclone Taylor]
- 30-game average: 28G, 14A for 41P
- [3 year peak too hard to calculate]
- Playoffs: 2G for 2P in 6 GP
- Traded out of the PCHA
- WCHL:
- 1923-25; 2 seasons, 1 quality
- 19G (25th All Time at best), 9A (20th at best) for 28P (23rd at best) in 44 games (25th at best)
- If the qualifier is set to 28 games (one season), Morris is, at best, 20th All Time in GPG, 18th in APG and 19th in PPG
- 28-game average of 12G, 6A for 18P
- [Did not play long enough for a 3-year peak]
- Playoffs: 1G, 1A for 2P in 2 Games
- Trades:
- Traded into the WCHL
- Traded out of the WCHL.
