Why is Bobby Bauer in the Hall of Fame?

Bobby Bauer was part of the famous Kraut Line. And he won two Stanley Cups, one Memorial Cup and one Allan Cup. (He might be the last hockey player to win all three.)

But he was never even the best player on his own team, let alone in the league. And he underperformed in the NHL playoffs.

Not only is it kind of strange that he’s in the Hall of Fame, but it’s extra strange he was inducted 40+ years after he retired and over 30 years after he died.

So why is Bobby Bauer in the Hall of Fame?

Listen as we try to find out:

Justin Williams is Mr. Clutch, he has the best Game 7 stats in the history of the sport. He has a Conn Smythe and he as 3 Cups, which is a lot for a 21st century player.

But his regular season stats are paltry. And did he deserve that Conn Smythe?

In this episode, we discuss whether or not Justin Williams belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame:

Does Butch Goring Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Butch Goring won four Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe trophy. And he’s got more awards than Clark Gillies. But he’s not in the Hall of Fame.

That could be because he probably didn’t deserve that Conn Smythe. And his regular season and playoff numbers are hardly elite.

Listen to us discuss Goring’s case here:

Does Claude Provost Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Claude Provost won 9 Stanley Cups – in fact, he has the most Stanley Cups of anyone not already inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He has better regular season numbers than at least one comparable player who has been inducted (Dick Duff), though his playoff numbers aren’t any good.

Should he be in the Hall of Fame?

Listen to us talk about his case here:

Why is Dick Duff in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Never a top offensive player in the league, Dick Duff was inducted into the Hall of Fame 34 years after retired.

In the latest episode of our podcast, we ask why Dick Duff was inducted at all, why he was inducted when he was, and whether or not his induction sets a dangerous precedent for the Hall of Fame.

Does Matt Cullen Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Why are we even writing about Matt Cullen? Obviously he doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame, right?

Well, he’s 20th All Time in NHL Games Played. And he has 3 Stanley Cups at a time when that’s pretty rare.

So, the question is, are the standards so low now that he might make it in?

Listen to us talk about Matt Cullen’s (lack of a) Hall of Fame case here:

Is Kevin Lowe the Worst Player to be Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Normally with our subject lines we ask “Does so and so belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame”? But, with Kevin Lowe, it’s hard to ask that question seriously even though he’s been inducted.

And that’s because, as you’ll see below, Kevin Lowe’s case for Hall of Fame induction rests on one thing and one thing alone: he won some Cups.

So listen to us rant about Kevin Lowe in this episode of our podcast:

Does Dale Hunter Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

No, Dale Hunter does not belong in the Hall of Fame.

So why did we talk about him? Well, he’s 2nd All Time in Penalties in Minutes, for one thing. And there was a time when that, um, meant something.

Listen to us talk about Dale Hunter:

Why is Glenn Anderson in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Glenn Anderson was the 5th best player on a dynastic hockey team. He then lucked out and got traded to a team which won him a sixth Stanley Cup. He was never the star of any of those 6 teams and he was only ever briefly a top offensive player in the NHL (when he was playing with 4 Hall of Fame skaters).

Yet he’s been in the Hall of Fame for a while.

In our latest episode, we talk about Anderson’s case, and how it centres on two things: his 6 Cups and his ridiculous playoff totals.

Listen here:
