Is Pat LaFontaine the Greatest American Hockey Player of All Time?

Some people believe Pat LaFontaine is the Greatest American Hockey Player of All Time. (The A-GOAT? The GAOAT?) This is despite an injury-shortened career and no Stanley Cups.

Does this claim hold up to scrutiny?

Listen to us talk about LaFontaine here:

Ed Belfour was one of the better goalies of the era, but does that mean he belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Listen to us discuss Belfour’s case here:

Does Jere Lehtinen Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

It might seem like a silly question. However, as if this writing, Jere Lehtinen is the only eligible player with at least three Selke trophies not in the Hall of Fame. (If Datsyuk doesn’t get in once he’s eligible, there will be two.)

In this episode we discuss Lehtinen’s case in light of Guy Carbonneau’s induction in 2019.

Does Henrik Zetterberg Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Before we recorded this episode, one of us was pretty convince he did belong and the other was skeptical. Somehow, talking about his case, we both changed our minds!

Zetterberg was undoubtedly one of the best two-way forwards of his era; overshadowed in awards voting by his teammate, he actually performed better in the playoffs than Datsyuk.

So does he belong?

Does Luc Robitaille Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Of course the real question is, “is Luc Robitaille the Greatest Left Wing of All Time?” That’s the real question because, of all left-shooting Left Wings in NHL history, Robitaille is first in both goals and points.

Brian Leetch was one of the greatest offensive defensemen of his era, perhaps even of all time.

That’s what we discuss on his episode of our podcast – where Leetch ranks all time, with multiple long discussions of his role in the 1994 Rangers’ Cup run.

Does Jeremy Roenick Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Jeremy Roenick was a dominant offensive player who was one of the few true personalities in a league known for extremely boring players.

Or was he a dominant offensive player? Both of us remember him being dominant but the stats don’t really back it up.

Listen to us discuss Roenick’s case in our latest episode:

Episode 29: Roenick, Brett Hull, Hobey Baker

Does Joe Nieuwendyk Belong in the Hockey of Fame?

Joe Nieuwendyk as an elite goal-scoring centre who transitioned into one of the great two-way forwards of his era. But did he really deserve his Conny Smythe Trophy? If he didn’t, what does that do to his Hall of Fame case?

Listen to us talk about Nieuwendyk here:

Does Vincent Lecavalier Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Vincent Lecavalier is one of those classic “one great year” cases; he was a dominant player for a season or two but, for much of the rest of his career, he was merely good. Was Lecavalier’s peak good enough for him to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
