Of course Steve Yzerman belongs in the HOF. But what we really want to know is, how good was he? Where does he rank all time?

In our latest episode, we discuss just how good he was, and his remarkable transition from elite offensive player to Selke winner.

Does Henrik Zetterberg Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Before we recorded this episode, one of us was pretty convince he did belong and the other was skeptical. Somehow, talking about his case, we both changed our minds!

Zetterberg was undoubtedly one of the best two-way forwards of his era; overshadowed in awards voting by his teammate, he actually performed better in the playoffs than Datsyuk.

So does he belong?

Of course the real question is, “is Luc Robitaille the Greatest Left Wing of All Time?” That’s the real question because, of all left-shooting Left Wings in NHL history, Robitaille is first in both goals and points.

Does Brian Leetch Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

by Håkan Dahlström from Helsingborg, Sweden [CC BY 2.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)]

Brian Leetch was one of the greatest offensive defensemen of his era, perhaps even of all time.

That’s what we discuss on his episode of our podcast – where Leetch ranks all time, with multiple long discussions of his role in the 1994 Rangers’ Cup run.

Does Mathieu Schneider Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

In journeyman career that saw him play for way too many teams, Mathieu Schneider amassed enough points to make him one of the top 25 offensive defensmen in NHL history (if you go by totals, not per game). That surprised us.

But Schneider has few individual accolades and not a lot of team success.

So does he belong in the Hall of Fame?

We discuss it on our latest episode. Listen here:

Does Jeremy Roenick Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Jeremy Roenick was a dominant offensive player who was one of the few true personalities in a league known for extremely boring players.

Or was he a dominant offensive player? Both of us remember him being dominant but the stats don’t really back it up.

Listen to us discuss Roenick’s case in our latest episode:

Does Doug Weight Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

by Dan4th Nicholas / Wikimedia / CC BY 2.0

Until very recently, Doug Weight was one of the Top 5 American passers in the history of the NHL, and he did so while playing his prime in the Dead Puck (Clutch and Grab) era, at one point scoring over 100 points in a season.

We both fondly remember Weight from those classic Oilers-Stars series of the late ’90s and early ’00s. But does he really deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame?

Does Joe Nieuwendyk Belong in the Hockey of Fame?

by Enoch Lai / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY 3.0

Joe Nieuwendyk as an elite goal-scoring centre who transitioned into one of the great two-way forwards of his era. But did he really deserve his Conny Smythe Trophy? If he didn’t, what does that do to his Hall of Fame case?

Listen to us talk about Nieuwendyk here:

Warning! This episode contains an extremely hot take about Nieuwendyk’s Conn Smythe.

Does Vincent Lecavalier Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Vincent Lecavalier is one of those classic “one great year” cases; he was a dominant player for a season or two but, for much of the rest of his career, he was merely good. Was Lecavalier’s peak good enough for him to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Listen to us talk about Vinny Lecavalier here:

Does Alexander Mogilny Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Alex Mogilny had one of the best goal-scoring seasons in the history of the NHL and one other pretty dominant season. But the knock on him was his consistency, as he had very mediocre years in between his good years.

Mogilny is also notable for being one of the last USSR players to defect to the States, and having never played internationally for Russia once he did so.

In this episode, we discuss his convoluted case for induction:
