Of course the real question is, “is Luc Robitaille the Greatest Left Wing of All Time?” That’s the real question because, of all left-shooting Left Wings in NHL history, Robitaille is first in both goals and points.

Does Lester Patrick Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player?

To say Lester Patrick played in the NHL is a bit of an exaggeration – he played two games over two seasons in his mid 40s while he was the coach of the Rangers. His career as a player was mostly spent in the PCHA (which he co-founded).

Lester Patrick is one of the major figures in the early history of hockey. His role as a builder is so important you could argue there were few others as important.

But how about his career as a player? Was he a Hall of Famer?

In journeyman career that saw him play for way too many teams, Mathieu Schneider amassed enough points to make him one of the top 25 offensive defensmen in NHL history (if you go by totals, not per game). That surprised us.

But Schneider has few individual accolades and not a lot of team success.

Does Doug Gilmour Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

A friend of ours used to claim that Doug Gilmour didn’t belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame because he had “one good year.” This friend used to compare Gilmour’s stats to Kirk Muller’s, apparently because he didn’t know he could look them up on the internet.

Does Doug Weight Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Until very recently, Doug Weight was one of the Top 5 American passers in the history of the NHL, and he did so while playing his prime in the Dead Puck (Clutch and Grab) era, at one point scoring over 100 points in a season.

We both fondly remember Weight from those classic Oilers-Stars series of the late ’90s and early ’00s. But does he really deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame?

Mickey MacKay was one of the PCHA’s great hockey players. When the PCHA merged with the WCHL, he was a star in the WCHL as well. With his mediocre NHL numbers, does he belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Jack Adams is an obvious Hall of Famer, the only person to win the Stanley Cup as a player, a coach and a GM, and that Jack Adams, he of the NHL’s Coach of the Year award. But was he really a Hall of Fame player?

Does Vincent Lecavalier Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Vincent Lecavalier is one of those classic “one great year” cases; he was a dominant player for a season or two but, for much of the rest of his career, he was merely good. Was Lecavalier’s peak good enough for him to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
