Wilfred Shorty Green

Shorty Green is in the Hall of Fame for a very specific thing, for being one of the leaders of the first ever NHL players strike.

But he’s in the Hall as a player, so how does his career stack up?

In this episode we discuss his actual hockey career. (And, to be clear, we strongly believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame for what he did off the ice.)

Does Ty Arbour Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Does Tommy Smith Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Tommy Smith is a player we really had never heard of.

Why? Because he played 10 games in the NHL. He scored 1 point.

But Tommy Smith is one of the best players in the history of the NHA.

Additionally, he dominated every amateur and semi-pro and early pro league he was in.

He probably belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Listen to us talk about Tommy Smith:

Does Frank Fredrickson Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Fredrickson entered the NHL in his 30s but, before that, he was an absolute star of the PCHA, perhaps the 3rd best player in its history.

Is that good enough for him to be in the Hall of Fame?

Listen to us talk about him in our latest episode:

Does Lester Patrick Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player?

To say Lester Patrick played in the NHL is a bit of an exaggeration – he played two games over two seasons in his mid 40s while he was the coach of the Rangers. His career as a player was mostly spent in the PCHA (which he co-founded).

Lester Patrick is one of the major figures in the early history of hockey. His role as a builder is so important you could argue there were few others as important.

But how about his career as a player? Was he a Hall of Famer?

We discuss that in our latest episode:

Does Gordon Duke Keats Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Does Duncan “Mickey” MacKay Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Mickey MacKay was one of the PCHA’s great hockey players. When the PCHA merged with the WCHL, he was a star in the WCHL as well. With his mediocre NHL numbers, does he belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

We talk about MacKay’s case for the Hall of Fame on our latest episode. Listen here:

Does Jack Adams Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player?

Jack Adams is an obvious Hall of Famer, the only person to win the Stanley Cup as a player, a coach and a GM, and that Jack Adams, he of the NHL’s Coach of the Year award. But was he really a Hall of Fame player?

Does Corb Denneny Belong in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

Unlike his brother Cy, Charles “Corb” Corbett Denneny is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame, despite having a pretty decent career.

In this episode, we talk about Corb and how he compares to some of his contemporaries who are in the Hall already. Does he deserve to be inducted now?

James Odie Cleghorn

Odie Cleghorn’s brother is a famous Hall of Fame hockey player. Was Odie also deserving?

In this episode, we discuss whether or not Odie Cleghorn has a comparable case to some other NHA/1920s players who were questionably inducted.
